His legacy will live on through his joyful spirit and commitment to helping others.
On March 29, 2025, the vibrant community of Las Vegas was struck with sorrow as they learned of the sudden passing of Gary Joe Osborn, a beloved figure known for his courage and unwavering spirit. Born on June 25, 1954, in the beautiful city of Santa Barbara, California, Gary’s life journey is one filled with resilience, family love, and community advocacy.
Growing up in Santa Barbara, Gary was the son of Joseph Osborn and Maryann Eldridge. He navigated his early education through local schools, ultimately graduating from Santa Barbara High School. Following his high school years, Gary served his country proudly in the Navy for two years. His love for learning continued as he attended Santa Barbara City College after his discharge.
It was in Santa Barbara where Gary crossed paths with his childhood sweetheart, Susan Smith. They lived just around the corner from one another and shared a love that blossomed into marriage in 1977. Together, they built a life filled with countless adventures, including Gary’s passion for scuba and skin diving. In fact, Susan eventually learned to dive herself, joining Gary on unforgettable aquatic expeditions. His friendship with Chris Proctor, who shared his love of fishing, also brought joy and cherished memories.
Gary wasn’t just a loving husband; he was a hardworking professional as well. He started his career as a Title Officer at First American Title, becoming one of the youngest to hold such a position in the state at that time. But that was just the beginning of his journey. After transitioning to bookkeeping, he spent many years as the Payroll and Office Manager for R.P. Richards Construction until the company ended operations. Gary didn’t stop there; he continued his dedication to work by joining Kittle Plumbing and Coastal Construction, where he formed lasting friendships. Throughout his working life, he kept in touch with many colleagues, highlighting the friendships he valued so dearly.
In 1988, Gary was faced with a life-changing diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Despite the challenges posed by the disease, he exhibited immense strength and resilience. Instead of letting MS define him, Gary became a mentor for individuals newly diagnosed with the condition, providing insight and encouragement during their journeys. Adopting the Disney character Tigger as a personal symbol of optimism and perseverance, Gary embraced life with a cheerful mantra: “Bounce Back from MS.” His friends and family know him affectionately as TIG, a representation of his unyielding spirit.
Gary is survived by his cherished mother, Maryann Eldridge; his devoted wife, Susan; their son, Benjamin, who is married to Gisele; their daughter, Amber; and his half-sister, Sandy Bourgeois. Though Gary requested no services held in his honor, his presence will surely be felt in the hearts of those who knew him.
In memory of Gary, those wishing to honor his life may consider donations to the MS Society, supporting a cause that became significant to him during his battle. Gary’s wife Susan expressed what so many will feel, that he was a life partner and friend who will be sorely missed. His signature saying, “Have a Tiggerriffice Day!” captures the spirit with which he lived—a spirit that inspires others to face their challenges with a smile.
